Parts List (all parts molded in white): 1 plastic tree part containing stairs, anchors, bollards, propellers, rudder; 1 plastic tree part containing vents, lifeboats, hatch covers; 1 plastic tree part containing davits; 1 plastic tree part containing derricks; 1 plastic tree part containing funnels, decks, superstructure bulkheads; 1 decal sheet with flags, railings, vents, portholes, windows and ship names; 1 single piece hull molded in black, 1 Instruction manual with paint and decal guide; 1 sheet with the history of the United States ship; 1 length of wire for making funnel bracket arms; 1 wooden base with two wooden support legs for model.

Things we like: Some of the things we liked about this kit were its general size and scale allowing for detail to be added with minimal difficulty. We found that the instructions were easy to follow and presented well. The decal sheet is well equipped with various assorted items. The one-piece hull is most welcomed and contained very well defined portholes, some of the best we have seen on a model.

Things we would like to see it have: Considering the scale of this model we would like to have seen it come with better and more accurate bulkhead details such as windows and doors, etc. The portholes could have been more accurately placed along with the proper superstructure window shapes and positions. It is nice they made an attempt to duplicate them as seen on the ship, but if you are going to do it, why not do it right? We would prefer either add on scribed plastic rails, or better, photo-etch rails rather than the pre-molded featureless flat solid plastic renditions requiring the gluing on of railing decals to give them their final appearance. Rigging material would also be an added bonus to the kit, whether it is wire, nylon monofilament line or thin thread.

Overall Comments: We liked the overall hull definitions though they were not 100% accurate with porthole and gangway door placements. The kit is ideal for making into an R/C model and/or the addition of lighting. The countersunk pre-drilled holes for the kit base legs is okay provided you plan to use the supplied base. We are not, preferring instead a larger one. The size makes for detail work to be done much easier and the modeler want to do several scratch built additions if they want this to be a truer representation of the ship as a whole. Though hard to find the kit is well worth purchasing if you can track one down and want a good representation of the United States for your ship model collection. The hull is one of the cleanest, flash free and virtually seamless one-piece hulls we have come across.
